Thirst & Drinking Water

Hunger isn’t the only thing that’ll wear you down out here. Thirst runs quietly in the background of every life you live, patient and unnoticed, and unlike hunger it gives you almost no warning until it’s already a problem.

You Won’t See It Coming — Until You Do

There’s no thirst bar sitting on your screen at all times. It’s tracked quietly, and stays invisible while you’re topped up. Only once you’re running low does a bar appear above your hotbar, shifting from blue toward yellow and finally red as things get worse. If you’ve never seen it, you’ve never let yourself get thirsty enough to need it.

Thirst drains slowly under normal play — you can go the better part of an hour before it’s a concern. Two things make it worse:

  • Sprinting drains it dramatically faster.

  • Hot biomes — deserts, badlands, and the like — drain it faster too, and the two stack. Sprint through a desert and you’ll burn through your reserves in a fraction of the time a calm walk would cost you.

Running Dry

Let it hit zero and you’ll start taking damage at a steady interval — not enough to kill you outright, but enough to eat into your health while you find water, and it’ll keep you pinned at a sliver of health for as long as you stay dry. It’s not a death sentence by itself, but it’s exactly the kind of thing that turns a survivable fight into a fatal one.

Getting a Drink

  • Right-click a water source block bare-handed for an instant, full refill. This is by far the most efficient way to drink — free, instant, and complete.

  • Stand or swim in any body of water and you’ll refill passively, tick by tick, the whole time you’re in it.

  • Standing in the rain helps too, slowly — enough to outpace idle drain, but not enough to save you if you’re sprinting through it.

  • A water bottle gives you a solid partial refill — reliable, portable, and exactly why it’s worth always carrying one.

  • A BreweryX drink quenches thirst by roughly the same amount as a water bottle, on top of whatever the drink itself does to you.

The Price of a Good Time

Getting properly drunk and then sobering back up costs you a real chunk of thirst — sweat it out, more or less. If you’re planning on drinking, plan on drinking water too, or you’ll trade one problem for another right as the first one clears up.

The Basics

  • Thirst resets to full when you respawn.

  • Keep a water bottle in your kit the same way you’d keep food. It’s cheap insurance for a mechanic that gives you very little warning before it starts costing you health.
